5 Questions with Andrea Morton, Human Resources Advisor

This week in our “5 Questions with…” series, we put the spotlight on Andrea Morton, Human Resources Advisor.

Q.1 – What excites you most about Gill and your role here?

The opportunity to be part of a people focused organisation where I can make a real impact on the employee experience, culture and growth.  I am excited by the pace and potential of Gill itself where I can use both my interpersonal strengths and problem solving skills while continuing to grow professionally.

Q.2 – You are relatively new to this industry. What interests you most?

The ever changing laws within employment, the balance between business needs and human needs. HR sits right in the middle of performance, culture, wellbeing and commercial reality. That balancing act is complex and never static.

Seeing potential and watching staff develop and grow when they didn’t think they could, seeing the business story and the human story unfolding at the same time.

Q.3 –How do you see technology impacting your role over the next 5 years?

The biggest change is that AI could automate HR heavily, one example being AI assisted hiring pipelines where recruitment focuses more on relationship-building and final decision making. This could reduce demand for high-volume administrative recruiting roles and where people analytics becomes far more predictive. Automated personalised learning and development, all of this assisted AI will leave HR more time for the strategic work.

Q.4 – Who has inspired you most throughout your career, and what did you learn from them?

I don’t feel anyone has inspired me in my career except my daughter who inspired me to get my HR qualification whilst she was young. Studying with a toddler whilst working full time was hard work but knew it would inspire me to do better in my career once my qualification was obtained.

Q.5 – Tell us something about yourself that might surprise people.

I enjoy working with clay and producing pottery pieces/sculptures, attempted the potter’s wheel…….. lets leave it at attempted!
