This week in our ‘5 questions with…’ series, we put the spotlight on Jess Martin, Human Resources Advisor.
Q.1 – What excites you most about Gill and your role here?
As an HR Advisor, I’m genuinely motivated by the variety of work and the chance to build strong relationships across the business. Every day brings a different challenge, whether that’s supporting managers, improving processes, enhancing the employee experience, or helping individuals navigate key moments in their employment. I enjoy being a trusted point of contact and contributing to a culture where people feel supported, valued, and able to thrive.
Most of all, I’m excited by the positive change we’re driving, strengthening our policies, investing in people development and creating a workplace where everyone can do their best work. Being part of that growth and seeing the difference HR makes across the organisation is what keeps me energised and proud to be part of Gill journey.
Q.2 – What interests you most about the industry?
I’m a passionate HR professional with a focus on creating workplaces where people thrive. I believe HR is never static; no day is the same; every day brings opportunities to learn, adapt, and make a difference. From navigating legislative changes to fostering collaboration and improving ways of working, I’m committed to building environments where employees feel valued and motivated.
Q.3 –How do you see technology impacting your role over the next 5 years?
I believe HR is becoming increasingly strategic as technology automates routine tasks and enables data-driven decision-making. Digital tools will streamline processes, reduce administrative tasks, and allow HR to focus on what truly matters, culture, engagement, and talent development. Coaching and upskilling the workforce will be critical to staying competitive.
Flexibility will no longer be a preference but a necessity, and employee well-being will remain at the heart of every successful business. The future of HR isn’t just about keeping ahead of the curve with the trends; it’s about leading the way and future-proofing organisations for what’s next.
Q.4 -Who has inspired you the most in your career, and what did you learn from them?
One of my greatest inspirations was a former manager who showed me that HR is far more than policies and processes. It’s about creating environments where people can thrive, grow, and do their best work. Their leadership taught me to stay grounded in what truly matters: understanding people, supporting their potential, and building workplaces where everyone has the chance to succeed.
Q.5 -Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
I joined a running group in August 2021 and went on to complete my first London Marathon in 2022. The journey taught me far more than endurance. It showed me the power of discipline, resilience, and believing you can do hard things. Training keeps me grounded, strong, and mentally ready to take on whatever comes my way.
