This week in our ‘5 questions with…’ series, we put the spotlight on Neil Burkinshaw, Business Development Manager.
Q.1 – What excites you most about Gill and your role here?
What excites me most about Gill is being part of a company that helped pioneer ultrasonic wind measurement technology and continues to lead through innovation and quality. Gill is also extremely well managed, and our product quality and lead times are superior in the marketplace, which gives customers a high level of confidence in working with us. I enjoy working closely with customers across different industries and helping them solve real-world environmental measurement challenges with reliable technology.
Q.2 – What interests you most about the industry?
What keeps me interested is that the industry is constantly evolving. New applications, smarter systems, and increasing demand for accurate environmental data mean there is always something new to learn. With the climate issues being experienced throughout the world, it is also very rewarding to be part of the solution by helping identify and better understand environmental and climate-related conditions through accurate measurement technology. I also enjoy building long-term relationships with customers and seeing how our technology contributes to their success.
Q.3 –How do you see technology impacting your role over the next 5 years?
I believe we’ll continue to see growth in automation, remote monitoring, and data-driven decision making. The marketplace is also expanding rapidly with new technologies and opportunities in areas such as space, military, and energy applications. Industries including renewable energy, marine, smart infrastructure, and weather monitoring will increasingly rely on high-quality sensor technology and integrated systems that provide real-time, actionable data.
Q.4 -Who has inspired you the most in your career, and what did you learn from them?
I’ve been inspired by leaders and mentors who combined strong technical knowledge with integrity and customer focus. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that long-term success comes from building trust, listening carefully, and consistently delivering value. Being a true partner with my clients throughout my career has also played a major role in my personal and professional growth, allowing me to better understand their challenges and work together toward successful solutions.
Q.5 -Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
Outside of work, I’m very passionate about golf and have been involved with the game at some of its highest levels. I enjoy the strategy and discipline the game requires, and it has taught me a lot about patience, focus, and continuous improvement. It’s been a rewarding experience both personally and professionally.
