5 Questions with Ricardo Cardoso, BDM

In the fifth of our “5 Questions with..” series, we  sit down with Ricardo Cardoso, Business Development Manager at Gill Sensors & Controls. We asked him what makes his role still interesting after so many years, where he sees the industry heading to, and where his passion for aviation has taken him.

Q.1 – What excites you most about Gill and your role here?

I enjoy being able to use my experience in rail, mining, and process control across a range of projects. Working on solutions that help customers keep critical equipment running reliably is very satisfying. I also like that every project is slightly different, which keeps things interesting and gives me a chance to bring practical solutions to real challenges.

Q.2 – You’ve been in this industry for many years – what keeps it interesting for you?

It’s the variety of work and the ongoing learning. Every customer and application is different, and I enjoy understanding their challenges and finding the best way to help. Seeing the direct impact of our solutions keeps the work rewarding.

Q.3 – How do you see the industry changing in the next five years?

Sensors are becoming more connected and integrated into wider systems. The value is increasingly in the insights they provide, rather than just the hardware. This will help customers make smarter operational decisions and plan maintenance more effectively.

Q.4 – Who has inspired you the most in your career, and what did you learn from them?

I’ve been fortunate to work with mentors who showed me the importance of curiosity and persistence. They taught me to look beyond the immediate problem and understand the bigger picture, both from a technical and commercial perspective. This has been invaluable in solving real-world challenges.

Q.5 – Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.

I’m a passionate aviation enthusiast and love traveling. Travel has always been a big part of my life, both personally and professionally. I enjoy exploring new places, meeting people from different backgrounds, and finding inspiration in how technology connects industries and communities around the world.
