5 Questions with Gregg Brown, Head of Sales

This week in our “5 Questions with…” series, we put the spotlight on Gregg Brown, Head of Sales at Gill. Although Gregg is relatively new to this industry, he’s passionate about showing the many applications our products have.

Q.1 – What excites you most about Gill and your role here?

The fact that everyday I get to interact with colleagues, customers, and partners from all around the world.  I’ve always been interested in people and I am a firm believer that people buy from people.

To get to do a job where I encounter people from all different cultures is exciting.  One minute I could be supporting one of the global sales team in APAC and the next speaking to a customer about their requirements in the USA.

Q.2 – You are relatively new to this industry. What interests you most?

Yes, I knew little about the Metrological and Industrial sensing markets when I joined Gill but it hit me straight away that there is so much variation in the applications that need our products.  Our customers use our products in so many innovative ways but the most interesting applications for me are when our products are used to keep people safe.

Monitoring environmental conditions is key to understanding when, where and how people can work and play.  It’s this area that I find most interesting and rewarding.  To know we play a part in making the world safer is truly amazing.

Q.3 – How do you see the industry changing in the next five years?

In every industry everyone wants data to be accessible and easy to interpret.  Our industry is no different.  I think we will see more connected devices and utilisation of AI to help people interpret their data more easily.

Q.4 – Who has inspired you the most in your career, and what did you learn from them?

My Dad.  Although we never actually worked together!  My Dad owned and ran a printing business.  I learned from him what a real work ethic was and saw how he led his business.  The values he instilled in me I use every day.

Do the right thing by people.

If you treat your people and customers with respect and deliver on your commitments, then they continue to work hard for you and buy from you.

Also lead from the front.

Never ask anyone to do something you wouldn’t do yourself.

Plus the fact that all that hard work paid off and he’s enjoyed a long and happy retirement is inspiring.

Q.5 – Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.

In my early career I was a little wild!  I worked as a holiday rep on the island of Majorca, Spain for a couple of summers in my early twenties before settling down into a less crazy career path.  Very pleased I got the experience though.
