This week in our ‘5 questions with…’ series, we put the spotlight on Dan Hughes, VP Global Engineering.
Q.1 – What excites you most about Gill and your role here?
Gill is a very dynamic place with great people that like to get things done. What I get most excited about is the push for innovation and developing solutions that solve real customer problems.
Q.2 – What interests you most about the industry?
With over 20 years of experience in product development and the last 5 in environmental sensing, the most interesting part is not knowing what problems we’ll be asked to solve next. Some problems are an evolution of a previous one, some never existed before and others are created by accident; always an adventure.
Q.3 –How do you see technology impacting your role over the next 5 years?
I see two paths for evolution in the industry: 1) AI for sure will be leveraged to help drive large datasets being captured for years into actionable insights; 2) Data exchanges will be used to help train, model and create greater understanding of global patterns.
Q.4 -Who has inspired you the most in your career, and what did you learn from them?
I’m inspired by everyone I’ve worked with making it difficult to single one individual out. The learnings are endless from how to approach problems, to sound decision making and how to be the most efficient with my time. Most important, when you love what you do, it isn’t “work”.
Q.5 -Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
I have an unusual ability to remember numbers. For example, I know my wife, both children and of course my own social security numbers. I also know every phone number of my own past numbers (5 of them), my families phone numbers and the phone number of my favorite pizza place from when I was in high school.
