This week in our “5 Questions with…” series, we put the spotlight on Katie Hopper, Quality & EHS Associate at Gill Group. Katie uses technology and data to improve safety before accidents happen. Read her story to find out what interests her the most at Gill Group and how her role will evolve in the near future.
Q.1 – What excites you most about Gill and your role here?
The variety of work keeps things interesting, and the close-knit environment makes it a great place to work.
Q.2 – You are relatively new to this industry. What interests you most?
I came from an engineering background and have transitioned to a QEHS role. I enjoy making the workplace safer and have an engineering background that supports this.
Q.3 –How do you see technology impacting your role over the next 5 years?
I think the industry is moving towards a more proactive approach, using technology and data to improve safety before incidents happen. I also see wellbeing and sustainability becoming bigger priorities.
Q.4 –Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
My apprenticeship in a multinational company really shaped the beginning of my career.
I was surrounded by experienced engineers from many different countries, which gave me a strong foundation and exposure to a wide range of approaches and standards.
Q.5 – Do you have a favourite quote or mantra you live by?
I have a passion for gardening: growing my own veg and fruit as well as an abundance of flowers.
